A Look Inside Our Space in Bungalow, Agoura Hills |
|
We had a great day changing out our space in Bungalow Thursday and thought we’d share a couple photos…
We have tons of cool old silverplate knives and made this display using an old tin scale basket. I just love the texture.

Here’s a shot of the left side of our space. The blond table is a marriage of a maple draftsman table top and a cool old iron base I found. The green table is an old 10 foot farm table from the 1930's. It was made by a man in Portland, Oregon out of floorboards and then painted that wonderful 30's green. You can also see some of the stuff on stands we just made.

The big wood molds on the left and right are foundry patterns for a giant pipe. They fit together to form the pipe. The woodwork on the inside is beautiful and we like using the 2 halves as shelves.

Here are the foundry mold nesting tables we just made plus a wonderful antique safe that would look great as a side table.

Objects as Art |
|
We just set up our sassy new drill press and it is now the new, fun thing. After a few test drives, I pulled out a bunch of objects I’ve been wanting to mount on stand and here are some of the results...
Curved Brass Horn Parts

The base of this guy is a long, thin wood foundry mold and I chose some cool brass instrument parts with lots of personality. Alan mounted them so they stand like little soldiers all in a row. Love them! Now available in our Etsy Store.
Antique Children Shoe Forms

Here’s a group of six vintage child’s wood shoe forms which I mounted on some rusty steel disks that came off some vintage lab equipment. Sold.
Hand-turned Clock Finials

Our pal Geo found these wonderful old hand-turned wood clock finials and I mounted them on small recycled steel bases. Love the colors and shapes of these. Sold.
Vintage Round Brushes Anyone?

Love these old cutters…

Vintage Wood Finial Foundry Molds

These are really rare and I thought this would be a great way to display them. They are the foundry molds for cast iron finials from the 40’s or 50’s. I paired them up with some nickel plated brass bases that came off old lab equipment. The tallest one is about 14” high. Now available in our Etsy Store.
Antique Camera Fronts on 4 x 5 Film Holders

OK, these aren't on stands but since we're talking about Objects as Art, wanted to add them in. Here are three vintage camera fronts mounted on vintage 4 x 5 film sleeves. Each is different but displayed together make a great statement. Now available in our Etsy Store.

The Perfect Light Switch... |
|
OK, I think this is my favorite lamp we’ve built so far.
Our good friend Alan, whom we call JunkGirl Alan, works with me on a lot of the lighting projects: I come up with the ideas and then he figures out how to make them work. For this lamp, I pulled out an old block of wood, a brass neck and fitting from a antique gas lamp, a porcelain socket, a vintage wire safety cage and some twisted lamp wire. I put it all on the work bench, told him what I was thinking and away he went.
This is what we came up with...

But, the best part about working with Alan is that he gets it, so his ideas are always something I look forward to. He wanted to come up with a more interesting way to turn the lamp on, so he rousted up an old porcelain and brass switch that I found in Santa Barbara which is dated 1900 and installed it on the side. We think it is perfect! Don't you agree?

Tables & Lighting & Mirrors, Oh My! |
|
Yep, we've been having some serious fun over here! Take a look at a few of the new fun things we've been designing & building...
I was lucky enough to come upon about a dozen of these vintage Carnival & Amusement Poster printing blocks and fashioned a coffee table using three of them.

These were handcrafted in the 40’ & 50’s and are just fabulous.

We rubbed them with Bri-wax to pull out the color and shine.

Take a look at the carving detail! This was before computers folks! These were handmade & hand routered. We'll top it off with a piece of 1/4" glass.
Here’s an occasional table we crafted from a vintage foundry mold grate pattern.

We have a few more of these in different patterns & sizes and will be making more tables until they are gone. Each one will be topped with 1/4" glass.

We used an old CINE-PRO movie camera tripod as the base of this guy and guess what the wood neck & finial are made using...? The first 3 people who guess correctly (just send us an email through the contact us form) will receive a handcrafted JunkGirls key fob! This lamp is now available in our Etsy Store.

Here's a close up of the neck and finial. Any guesses??

This pendant lamp was crafted using a vintage foundry mold, NOS (new old stock) porcelain fitting from the 40’s and some fabulous fencing wire with just the right patina.

Love the look inside and with an Edison bulb - PERFECT!

And here are a few of the mirrors we crafted from the vintage foundry mold grate pattern frames (we use everything here at the JunkGirls!). Each one is unique in wood color and shape.

So sorry for the long lapse between updates on our site. We’ve been very busy (and lucky!) girls working on orders and products and don’t get to updating our site enough! We’re going to do our best to change that and make our posts more often than every three weeks (gads!), but in the meantime, those of you on Facebook, please be sure to “like” us on Facebook as we like to toggle between the two and we're a little bit better about posting quick updates there...
Thanks again for all the support!
